Jack Fertility

What does your organisation do?
Our mission is to remove all barriers to male reproductive healthcare in the UK. We aim to empower all people with sperm to take control of their fertility journeys by making sperm testing as easy as possible, and reduce the fertility burden borne by women. Our audacious goal is to preempt the looming male fertility crisis by creating the global standard for comprehensive sperm health monitoring and tackle UN SDG 3.7, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services.

Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire?
Co-founders Nick and Lily met on the Oxford Saïd MBA course, and using the strength of the biotech ecosystem in Oxfordshire found a home to build Jack at the Wood Centre, supported generously by The Oxford Trust. The depth of talent and resources, and energy in the city keep us here.

What big problem are you trying to solve?
The UK is facing a looming fertility crisis. Sperm counts have declined by 50% since 1980 and 1 in every 6 couples experience infertility, with over a third of this infertility exclusively caused by the male factor. Yet male fertility remains a taboo topic, rarely talked about or tested for until long after the female partner has gone through invasive and difficult treatments. Experts in multiple areas have said that male fertility has been left out of the conversation almost completely. Once identified, male fertility issues are often highly treatable through lifestyle and medical interventions, and if caught early enough, could prevent the need for many cases of IVF.
