Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire?
I lived in Oxford for 4 years and experienced the amazing innovation ecosystem first hand. At the same time I was advising the UK Government on pension capital reforms and the issues around a lack of domestic scale-up capital. I became committed (probably a bit obsessed!) with doing all I could to improve outcomes for founders and investors in the UK. Those like the ones I met in Oxford every day trying to make an impact in their field.
What big problem are you trying to solve?
Capital and clarity. People see Oxford as opaque and often hard to enter either as a founder or investor. Oxford+ exists to help them learn and understand the ecosystem here and the people who form its fabric. Capital - we need more and education is the first step. People need to get comfortable with the asset class of innovation led venture capital within large institutional investors such as UK pension funds - this is a journey and one that it is critical we bring stakeholders on. They need to understand and feel compelled by the investment case - not told they must invest for societal good. Oxford+ is part of that educational puzzle.
