What does your organisation do?
The BioEscalator is dedicated to fostering innovative bioscience start-ups with high growth potential, aiming to make a meaningful impact on human healthcare. Providing excellent lab and office facilities, shared scientific equipment and access to state-of-the-art research facilities at the University of Oxford, it also has a unique entrepreneurial environment to help companies develop. By facilitating collaboration between the University of Oxford, NHS, and academic researchers, it also plays a key role in inspiring future entrepreneurs.
The unique thing - this innovation powerhouse in the centre of the University of Oxford's clinical campus welcomes biotech and medtech start-ups and spin-outs from across the UK. We can help them collaborate with and benefit from the world-leading research and expertise at the University.
Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire?
The BioEscalator is part of the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford. Its Management Board comprises leading University of Oxford researchers and entrepreneurs, and around half of its tenants are spin-outs from the institution. The BioEscalator is a leading part of the Oxford innovation ecosystem, working closely with players such as BioUK, OSE, OUI, Advanced Oxford, the Oxford Trust and more.
What big problem are you trying to solve?
Our tenants are selected on the basis of their ability to bring high impact solutions to the significant healthcare problems. The BioEscalator is disease and modality agnostic, expecting its tenants to be high growth and innovators in their fields.
How can you support the Oxfordshire ecosystem?
We support the Oxford ecosystem with our entrepreneurial environment which provides a resource for translation of biomedical innovation into healthcare products. Training of the next generation of entrepreneurs is a focus too. The ecosystem can support us by making us aware of exciting companies to join our community of innovation.
