Oxford Product Design: Transforming Complex Ideas into Commercially Successful Products

What does your organisation do?
OPD helps organisations transform innovative ideas into real, manufacturable products. We support the entire development journey - from early concept exploration and human-factors research through to detailed engineering, prototyping, validation and production readiness.
We are ISO 13485-certified, meaning our quality management system meets the international standard for medical device development. This certification reflects our structured, evidence-led approach to innovation - what we call New Product Science®. It ensures traceability, risk management and robust decision-making are embedded into every project, not just regulated ones. Even for non-medical clients, this methodical approach reduces development risk and improves commercial outcomes.

Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire?
Oxfordshire is one of England's most science-driven innovation ecosystems. With its concentration of world-class research, MedTech, deep-tech startups and advanced engineering, it's a natural home for an ISO 13485-certified product development consultancy.
The "Oxford" name carries an expectation of rigour and credibility. Our structured, evidence-based development approach aligns closely with that environment. Being located near Harwell and within the Oxford cluster allows us to collaborate closely with spinouts, researchers and scale-ups developing high-impact technologies - particularly in regulated and technically demanding sectors.

What big problem are you trying to solve?
Brilliant science does not automatically become a successful product.
Many innovations fail because the development process lacks structure, traceability or commercial alignment - particularly in regulated environments like medical devices.
OPD exists to reduce the risk of innovation. Through our ISO 13485-certified systems and New Product Science® methodology, we embed rigorous risk management, user insight and engineering discipline into every stage of development. This helps ensure that technically complex products are not only innovative, but viable, compliant, manufacturable and commercially successful.

How can you support the Oxfordshire ecosystem?
We partner with ambitious founders, startups, and established organisations tackling complex challenges across a wide range of sectors.
We're particularly well suited to:
- Ambitious founders looking to turn bold ideas into manufacturable products
- Teams operating in complex or highly regulated markets
- Organisations developing technically challenging or novel solutions
- Businesses needing a hands-on, end-to-end product development partner
- Companies looking to de-risk development and accelerate time to market
In return, we value strong connections with research institutions, investors and ecosystem leaders who are helping build globally significant companies from Oxfordshire.
