Proximo Ventures

What does your organisation do?
Proximo Ventures is an early-stage investment syndicate operating across Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial, backing founders building at the frontier of deep tech. What's not obvious from the outside is that Proximo isn't just capital - we have actively built out an expert network of scientists, exited founders and operators, who support us with due diligence but also provide immensely valuable support to our portfolio companies.

Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire?
Oxford is one of Proximo's 3 campus sites. Currently we have a team of 7 student investors, supervised by a campus lead, who are highly active in deal sourcing. We have recently closed our first investment in an Oxford company - a HealthTech startup founded by 2 University of Oxford graduates.

What big problem are you trying to solve?
Ventures coming out of universities often struggle to bridge the gap between exceptional research and an investable, scalable company - the science is world-class, but the commercial pathway isn't always clear. Proximo exists to close that gap, providing early capital and hands-on expertise so that strong science doesn't stall for lack of the right support at the earliest, highest-risk stage.
How can you support the Oxfordshire ecosystem?
We can support Oxford founders with early-stage funding and access to a network of scientists, exited founders and operators who've been through the translation process themselves. In turn, we rely on the Oxford ecosystem - the university's research output, its founders, and events like OxTech Week - to keep sourcing the strongest life sciences and deep tech opportunities coming out of the city.
